Does duct cleaning remove the smell of smoke?

The duct cleaning we do removes all particulate matter in the ducts. Whether that is dust or other debris, it acts as a sponge for scents such as smoke and other odours. Most of the time, this is enough to eliminate the smell of smoke and other offending odours.

How do I know what type of ventilation system I have?

It is common to be unsure, especially if you have just moved in. Air exchangers (HRVs) usually have a grey box with ducting coming out of it, plus white, round covers in the ceiling. Forced-air furnaces and ducted heat pumps blow warm air from vents, usually in the floor or the basement ceiling. Mini splits (ductless heat pumps) blow warm or cool air from a unit mounted on the wall. Still not sure? Call us and we will walk you through it.

Will you need to cut into my ductwork?

If there is not already an access hole in the main ducting, we create one and plug it once the cleaning is done. We let every customer know this up front so there are no surprises.

How long will the cleaning take, and how loud is it?

A typical home with up to 16 vents takes about 2–3 hours. Additional systems add roughly an hour each. Someone needs to be home during the cleaning. Inside, the noise is about the same as running a vacuum cleaner, or a little louder; the van-mounted compressor is louder but stays outside.
